    Wimbledon-- wow!

Wow-- what a match today! I didn't think I would spend the better part of my day wrapped up in tennis, but it was worth it to see that level of genius tennis. As with any five-set match, it's always sad someone has to lose. I went into wanting Roger Federer, but after Rafael Nadal was up two sets and then lost the next two, I must admit my view shifted. I love these players so much-- had the opportunity to see Roger play at last year's US Open-- and I wanted Roger to get the six consecutive wins, but to see Rafa lose would have been too much. He was just adorable when he win converted a Championship Point. And my heart did break watching Roger after it ended-- it was awful seeing him get choked up in the post-match interview with John McEnroe-- bless.

I also loved seeing Venus and Serena fight it out yesterday-- the match was so much closer than the two sets showed. I always have favored Venus a lot more over Serena, but both are so great for women's tennis. I was super glad when they won the ladies doubles!

    Hairdryer trauma

So I was in Charlotte, NC, last night blowdrying my hair-- all is well. Then I hear that my TV show is back on so I go to turn it off and the switch breaks. Now it won't turn off unless I unplug it from the wall, however, since it was broken in the on position, the plug sparks everytime you just yank it out of the wall. My last blowdryer ended up sparking and making a small fire before it broke, which is why this freaks me out a bit. Luckily, this blowdryer, which is only a few months old, also has a cool setting. The thing is now I plug it in, dry the section of hair I want, turn it on cool, and then unplug. Go to the next section of hair and repeat. A short haircut is good for the rest of the day, but setting it for the day is time consuming process. Add in a blowdryer which needs extra care and now it's going to take over twice as long. The dilemma now is to get a new blowdryer or just deal with this one. I just got this one in November of 2007 so I hate to throw it away so soon-- just what the landfills need, more plastic-- but it doesn't properly work.

The Highs and Lows of Life

So that's a super cliched title, but it really fits my mental state right now. Things have actually been going well. I went to Boston on business-- yay out of the office and to one of my favorite cities-- and finally saw Vermont, New Hampshire, and Maine on side trips. I saw One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest and realized what a truly great actor Randy Harrison is-- wow! And saw him chatting with a friend and realized he has all the same mannerisms and speech patterns of all my favorite gay men-- and that was super reassuring. And then I got my Harry Potter book at late Friday night/early Saturday morning at 1am-- just finished it and it was a really glorious book. I was very satisfied with the ending and very elated at the whole experience.

And then I checked my email, which I didn't get to last night b/c of the book, and found out a very good friend of mine passed away in a car accident. Going from elated to deflated in a matter of moments. This is one of those times I wished I understood God's ways and plans-- it makes no sense that someone who was only 29 is now gone from our lives. A friend of mine lost his mother last week to cancer and the week before another good friend lost a good friend of his in a car accident. I swear sometimes the end of times is closer than we think.
